MAX teamed up with the Montgomery Biscuits and Alabama State University to announce the MAX Sting Fest! The Hornets’ game against Mississippi State University will be played at Montgomery’s Riverwalk Stadium on April 11 at 6 p.m.
“One of the things we are taxed with is asking what we can do to make the quality of life better in the River Region,” MAX Chief Marketing Officer D.G. Markwell said. “We’ve been teaming up with the Biscuits since 2004. We brought the Southern League All-Star Game, started the MAX Capital City Classic ten years ago, and today we want to announce a brand new event – what we call the MAX Sting Fest.”
The two schools have not met before, with the first meeting scheduled for this season.
“We are thrilled to have teamed up with our good friends at MAX Credit Union to bring Alabama State Baseball to Riverwalk Stadium”, said Biscuits Chief Operating Officer, Brendon Porter. “We will provide the same game day experience for The Sting Fest as fans enjoy at a Biscuits’ game, including a post-game MAX Fireworks Show. This is just the beginning of what I am sure will be a strong partnership between the Biscuits and Alabama State, both on and off the baseball field.”
The Hornets are coming off of back-to-back appearances in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship game and a 2016 NCAA Regional appearance, while Mississippi State has won 11 SEC championships and appeared in nine College World Series.
“We are excited for our program that we have this opportunity,” Alabama State head coach Jose’ Vazquez said. “We are also honored that [MAX] and the Montgomery Biscuits chose to partner with us for this contest that were able to attract an SEC opponent to town. We also look forward to going out there and competing against one of the best teams from the best conferences in the nation.”
The game will be the second of the season against an SEC opponent for Alabama State, as they played Alabama on the last day of February.
“We are extremely excited to partner with the Montgomery Biscuits and MAX Credit Union to host our game against Mississippi State University,” Alabama State interim athletic director Jennifer Lynne Williams said. “Our department’s motto is, ‘commit to connect’; and the relationship that’s developed through this partnership will only strengthen our athletic department’s visibility in the community as well as the overall brand of the University. It truly is a great time to be a Hornet, and we encourage all of our fans, alumni and friends to come out to the ballpark on April 11, 2018.”
